Lee Harries was born Debbie Karemer but after years of struggling with his sexual identity — he asked for gender reassignment aged The now year-old claims he began private testosterone treatment one day later and had his breasts removed after just three months — starting an year journey to become a man. Mr Harries said he is speaking out about gender reassignment reversal in a bid to encourage others to seek talking therapy before surgery. He said he should never have been allowed to transition — claiming his dissatisfaction with his female body stems from sexual abuse. I just regret the decision. At the time it was a state of mind no body really spoke about. Mr Harries said the first step towards his realisation was when he approached the police in , to report the abuse at the hands of his father.
'My female to male transition'
This planted the seed of gender confusion and led to my transitioning at age 42 to transgender female. In my case, I was diagnosed at age 40 with gender dysphoria and at age 50 with psychological issues due to childhood trauma. I thought my secret was safe, but my teenage uncle heard about it and felt I was fair game for taunting and sexual abuse. If not for the purple dress, I believe I would not have been abused by my uncle. That abuse caused me to not want to be male any longer.
Thirteen male-to-female transsexuals were investigated in an intensive interview study. The follow-up period varied between 6 and 25 years, with an average of 12 years. Surgical outcome was disappointing, and only one-third of the patients where a vaginal construction was carried out had a functioning vagina. The importance of patient cooperation postoperatively is pointed out and reasons for noncooperation are discussed. The generally held view of transsexuals as hypo- or asexual is questioned.
